Here’s a calendar of important events and a list of resources all in one place which aims to help you understand property tax collection in Texas a little better along with a timeline of key dates.

JAN 01
ASSESSMENT DATE.

Property values are assessed based on their value as of January 1.

APR 15
INITIAL VALUATIONS MAILED.

Notices of Appraised Value are mailed from the Appraisal District. We recommend contacting us as soon as possible after receiving this notice so we can start filing your protest!

MAY 15
APPEAL DEADLINE.

The deadline to file a protest is May 15 or 30 days after the Notice of Appraised Value was postmarked, whichever is later. We file all of our clients' protests every year.

MAY - JULY
HEARINGS IN SESSION.

The Appraisal Review Board (ARB) handles protest disputes.

NOV
TAX STATEMENTS MAILED.

The new tax rates are adopted and applied to the certified values. Tax statements are mailed shortly afterward.

JAN 31 OF THE FOLLOWING YEAR
PAYMENT DEADLINE.

Last day to pay property taxes without penalty.
